St. Joseph Healthcare is "Tobacco Free for Life"
To promote wellness and provide wholistic healing in accordance with our mission, the use of tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco) is prohibited within and outside all St. Joseph Healthcare owned buildings.
Visitors wishing to use tobacco products will be asked to go to their personal vehicles to do so.
Visiting hours are from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; we ask that visitors limit their time to these hours. Children under 14 may visit with permission of the charge nurse. Sick children may not be allowed, in order to minimize the risk of infecting patients. Exceptions may be made under special circumstances, always with the patient's best interest in mind. There is a comfortable waiting area on each floor for visitors to wait and relax, as well as a lobby just inside the main entrance on Broadway.
For Critical Care Visitors...
Visits to the Critical Care Unit are encouraged, with some guidelines. Visits are good for you, and good for your hospitalized loved one. At times, family members can be timid about visiting for fear of disturbing their ill loved one. Not to worry; if and when necessary, our nurses know how to gently remind visitors it is time to leave and let a
Visitors are allowed at any time. However, in many cases it is better to avoid morning hours when patients are likely to be away from their room for tests or procedures.
Flowers. Please do not give living plants to patients. Cut flowers are okay.
For your privacy. Visitors are welcome to use the waiting area near the elevators. However, if you would like an enhanced level of privacy, there is a comfortable Private CCU Waiting Room nearby, with a telephone and TV. It is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Where the corridors intersect by the CCU entrance, turn left. The waiting room is on
Cell phones. Please silence ring tones and consider not placing or taking calls while staff is providing care. Please, no video or photographs of staff or other patients.
Laptops may be used as long as they are checked for electrical safety by the Biomedical Engineering department. Nursing staff can assist you with this. Complimentary Wi-fi is available. Ask the nursing staff or phone the I.S. Help Desk at 907-1265.
Children are welcome to visit the Critical Care Unit as long as they are with a responsible adult, remain in the room they are visiting, and are well mannered.
Lodging for Out-of-Town Guests
Lodging is available at a special discount rate in several area hotels and motels for visitors of St. Joseph Hospital patients. More information may be obtained from the Central Registration office. To view a list of participating properties, click here.
The Cafeteria, located on the second floor, serves a wide variety of hot and cold foods

Weekdays: 6:30 a.m. - 6:45 p.m.
Weekends: 7:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.
The patient and visitors’ lot is next to the main entrance on Broadway. Free valet parking is available daily from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For valet service, you should drive up to the circle directly in front of the hospital entrance. A representative will present a receipt and park your vehicle. Show the receipt at the front entrance when leaving and a valet will retrieve the vehicle.
The Gift Shop
Helen’s, the hospital gift shop, is located off the main lobby. Cards, gifts, candy and flowers are offered, as well as newspapers and magazines.

Contacting a patient
You may contact a patient directly between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. To direct dial a patient room and avoid the switchboard or nurses’ station, dial 907-3 followed by the patient’s three-digit room number. Include area code (207) for long distance calls placed from outside Maine. Calls placed outside the designated hours are routed to the nurses’ station.
The Front Desk volunteers may assist you in locating the room number for your family member or friend. You may contact them between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. by dialing (207) 907-1776 or by visiting the Broadway entrance Front Desk for assistance.
