Covenant Health Systems is an innovative Catholic health organization committed to advancing the healing ministry of Jesus by working collaboratively with others. Covenant Health Systems was established in 1983 by the Sisters of Charity of Montreal to direct, support and conduct their healthcare, elder care and social service systems throughout the United States. Today, Covenant Health Systems serves as sponsor, governance organization and manager of multiple health and elder care related organizations throughout New England.

St. Joseph Hospital is a member of the Maine Health Alliance. The Alliance is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1995 consisting of nine community hospitals and 325 physicians. The central goal of the Alliance is to preserve local access to high quality, cost-effective healthcare.
St. Joseph Hospital is a member of the Maine Hospital Association (MHA). The Maine Hospital Association is an advocate for 39 community-governed hospitals in Maine. It also provides educational services and serves as a clearinghouse for comprehensive information for its hospital members, lawmakers and the public. MHA is a leader in developing healthcare policy and works to stimulate public debate on important healthcare issues that affect all of Maine’s citizens.
